Presentation

In most businesses, where they were is a pretty good indication of where they’re headed. In Funeral Service today, that’s not really the case. Our past has given us a proud tradition, but the future seems to have another plan in mind. Samuel Adams said, “We cannot make events. Our business is wisely to improve them.” These words still ring true some 200 years later. How can funeral professionals wisely improve in light of all the events happening in the world today that are beyond control? With more than 42 years experience in the funeral business, Doug Gober has a breadth of knowledge and insight into the past, present and future of funeral service.

In this session, Doug will take stock of the current state for funeral service and how funeral professionals can be proactive in planning for the future. As the rate of change continues to escalate, understanding client family needs and building a business to meet those needs will be critical. Successful funeral professionals will find a way to take whatever comes their way – rising cremation rates, changing demographics, shifting consumer preferences – and wisely improve them. Gober will evaluate four main areas of the funeral profession along the lines of Past, Present, and Future: Merchandising, Content, Facilities, and Competition. He will look at each potential point of customer contact with our business and then delve into how each of these and our existing and potential customers. He will also tackle each area from the perspective of how to differentiate yourself in your marketplace.
